FOCUS FIVE PROGRAM

Alec Frank is the creator of the focus five program, CSUSM Alumni, and our contact with Casa de Amparo. Frank saw a need for a program to help the girls at Casa de Amparo with their physical and mental well-being, and as a result he created the incentive-based workout program that we are working with. Alec wants to help teach the kids to regain control of their physical bodies and behaviors. We brought a proposal to Alec to take his program and turn it into a web app, print journal, and create a website to show off both the app and journal. In collaboration with the Cougar Catalyst Marketing Agency, EmpowerFit was born.

Focus Five is a non-traditional innovative therapeutic program that employs the use of physical exercise as part of the therapeutic process to help manage trauma. The Ultimate goal is to teach individuals how to use their own bodies to focus their energy in a constructive manner. There are five main tenets to the program. Less is more, we have all we need, consistency is growth, everything is connected, and Relationships are our foundation. This means we can grow our physical and mental strength by using minimal outside resources. We posses the tools needed to begin and move through our healing journey. We can exponentially improve, allowing for new personal bests. Competition, hardwork, focus, practice, preparation, recovery, and other aspects of exercise can be used to heal and manage past trauma. We learn how to best control our bodies in a healthy and engaging competitive environment, teaching us to make healthy connections with ourselves and others.
